Airman
by Eoin Colfer

Conor was born in and for flight. When his parents were at the 1878 Paris World Fair, they rode a new dirigible. Unfortunately someone shot the dirigible down. In those moments they were falling, and in those same moments Carter was born. Years later, Conor's mentor and the king were killed, and it was blamed on Conor. Branded, shunned, and thrown in prison, he becomes a man and seeks a way out the only way he knows how...flight. Read this wonderful, action-packed, sword-fight, gravity-filled books, and find out who is behind the misery of Conor Broekhart.

This book was: Splendiferous.

Books by Blei: Walker's Crossing

Walker's Crossing
by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

Recommended by: Ryan G.
The book, Walker's Crossing, started off kind of slow to me, but once I got to a little over a hundred pages, I couldn't stop reading! This book is full of awesome moments. That's why I couldn't stop reading!
The first reason I picked this book is because it is about a tall 7th grader named Ryan, which pretty much describes me perfectly.
The second reason is that Mrs. Blei told me that the author is very good, I believe it now. I would certainly recommend this to anybody who likes fiction.
This book takes places in Wyoming. Ryan's brother, Gil, doesn't like people who are different, but Ryan thinks everybody is equal. At the end of the book, Ryan learns something very important. If you want to know more you have to read the book.

This book was: Slow, but it was worth it.

I would recommend this book to: Anyone who likes fiction.

Fourteen-year-old Espen lives in Norway and the Nazis have invaded the land he roams. Espen joins the Resistance and his small job turns into something bigger. Espen finds himself in deep trouble and must escape the country he once called home. Along the way he meets a woman named Tante Marie. She helps him along until she becomes sick, and he must do this almost alone.

My favorite character is Solveig because she was nice and kind when Espen needed help.

This book was: Boring at first.

I would recommend this book to: People who like historical fiction.

Li Lun, Lad of Courage
by Carolyn Treffinger

Recommended by: MaiLee Y.
Li Lun, Lad of Courage is a historical fiction book. Li Lun is a 10-year-old boy who is scared of sea water. He did not want to go fishing with his dad which made his dad get angry. Li Lun's dad and other boys bullied him and called him a coward. His dad sent him to the mountain to plant seven rice seeds. Li Lun was to bring back seven times worth of rice. Along his journey, Li Lun meets a priest. Does Li Lun become brave? Does he bring back the rice?

My favorite part was the celebration and the what the priest decided for the village.

This book was: Boring at the beginning, but the more you read it you can't stop reading it!

I would recommend this book to: People who like to read historical fiction.

Books by Blei: Son of a Gun

Son of a Gun
by Anne de Graaf

Recommended by: Will T.
Son of a Gun is a novel based on the wreckage of the 1989 Liberian Civil War. The cool thing about this book is that no matter where your from you can connect to this book in many ways if you dig deep into the text.

The story follows the life of brother and sister, Nopi and Lucky, who are taken away from home to become children soldiers in the war. During this long battle you will see different side perspectives of Nopi and her little brother Lucky, they share a lot about their lives int he past and their life as a soldier. They learn the culture, the culture of being a soldier - but will it get too much into their heads?

This book was: Great!

I would recommend this book to: Someone who loves historical events.

Books by Blei: After

After
by Francine Prose

School shootings are always terrible, but this one was especially bad. The shooters were students from the high school that the shooting was at. The name of that school was Pleasant Valley. Up until now, Tom has been just a regular high schooler at Central, fifty miles away from Pleasant Valley. But all of a sudden, Central gets a new grief and guidance counselor that is supposed to help people heal after the Pleasant Valley shooting. But soon school starts to turn into a prison. Pretty soon kids, teachers, and even the principal disappears, and Tom starts to wonder what is happening to this school.

This book was: Really Good!

I would recommend this book to: People who like suspenseful mysteries.
