Books by Blei - Multicultural: Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Wartime Sarajevo

Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Wartime Sarajevo
by Zlata Filipovic

Recommended by: Sophia Bertossi
I read a book called, Zlata's Diary. It was very well written, especially for an 11-year-old. This book takes place in Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a diary written by Zlata Filipovic. She starts off writing about her wonderful life with her friends, family, and big fun events. Later on, a big war starts. Soon she starts writing her feelings about the war. All Zlata really wants is to live a normal and happy life but the war stops her from doing so. A lot of her friends and relatives move to places far away such as Italy. I wouldn't want to be in her position. Just as the shootings around her apartment start to slow down, they start up again. My favorite part is the ending, and I would love to tell you what happnes but I don't want to give away the ending! I like the way this book was written, it was a real diary! Isn't that cool? She really tells you what is going on in her life. It is a sad book that show you how war affects innocent people.
Please read this book; once you start reading you can't stop!

This book was: Epic, yet heartbreaking. It made you happy at some points.

I would recommend this book to:  Real life, war perspective lovers.

I rate this book:
